Picture 2

I’ve stumbled across a wonderful collective called Must Warn Others. It has Bryan Schutmaat in it and he’s just great.

I just found this. It was the first photograph I produced when going into the last year of university. Awful!

Jim Goldberg.

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

I went to see the Jim Goldberg exhibition at the Photographers Gallery in London last week, it was so inspiring. His large format photographs have a beautifully rich quality to them. The image above his from his series from the Ukraine, Goldberg comments; “In Europe, I am an outsider, I don’t really understand anything that I am seeing. I can be welcomed into people’s homes, I can be met with suspicion, I can be taken somewhere else altogether. There is always wonderment there for me, even if the person I am photographing may not see it or be aware of it.” I read an interesting blog post a while ago (I can’t remember where), the jist was that could you really make a substantial and meaningful body of work about a place that you didn’t really know? Well in Goldberg’s case, you certainly can.

Erika Svensson.

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

I didn’t realise it has been two weeks since my last post. Oh dear.

Erika Svensson is a wonderful photographer from Sweden. She mixes portraits and landscape and night photography and still life and other stuff beautifully. I especially love the series “Thou Wondrous Man”, the delicate images have such power. Wonderful stuff.

Flora Hanitijo.

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Flora Hanitijo is one of my all time favourite photographers. I first saw her pictures on an album cover for Au Revoir Simone. Her work is similar to their music in the sense that it has this kind of nostalgic quality, without ever being overbearing. A kind of quiet elegance. She mixes portraits, landscapes and still life with consummate ease.

vader

Halloween was pretty fun. It’s a shame that my Jedward outfit didn’t come to fruition.
