Carhartt.

Friday, September 9th, 2011

I was lucky enough to be asked to shoot a lookbook for Carhartt to be used in some promotional material for their Heritage range (images to come) and on the way out of the location where we did the shoot, I saw this chap in a Carhartt jacket. I love this photograph. It’s crazy what a diverse range of people wear the brand and this might be the start of a wider project.

Physical.

Friday, July 8th, 2011

Just done some interesting work for Birmingham based designer Physical Novel. He designs wonderful unisex clothes, which are being currently sported by JLS. Good stuff. Hopefully I’ll get to collaborate with him again in the near future.

New!

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

I’ve been working on a lookbook for the designer Sofia Falsafi this week. I really love this wax poncho she created (in the image above). Now…I’m not usually one for lots and lots of editing, but I stumbled on a technique for creating black and white images using Photoshop that I actually like. Weird. It still doesn’t have the feel of trusted Tri-X, but it’ll do for digital.

It’s so important not to let the message of the image to get clouded by technique, as so the main focus is the technique. This post here so succinctly points that out. I just hope my progress with digital isn’t clouded by technique over quality.

Old…

Sunday, May 15th, 2011

They say you should never look back when making new art, but I’m finding it a cathartic process going back over old negatives. It’s giving me an idea of what I want to do in the future and the type of images I want to make, the problem is getting people to pose for me. This image was a real turning point in my project; “There’s a lot of Dads Called Steve”, everything else I created before this was a disaster to say the least. I found this objective way of photographing breathed new air into my stationary narrative and for the first time I believed in what I was doing. Hopefully looking back at these old negatives can do the same for my future projects.

Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2011…

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

I was so happy to read that Jim Goldberg is the winner of the coveted prize. You can see the article about it here at the BJP. I’ve talked about Goldberg before in an earlier post and the Open See series that won has all the beauty and wonder that you’d expect from him.

Arrgghhh…

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

I’ve been absolutely awful at keeping this part of the website up-to-date. Awful. Anyways, I recently did some work for online boutique Bell and Smokey that launches today. The site looks great and I was happy to be part of it, hopefully we can do more stuff together in the future.

On the blog front? I promise to be better.

I also started a new project today, more details to come!
